Paul's racing career started in 2008 when, after years of interest in the sport, He saved all his pocket money, Christmas money and 12th birthday money and persuaded his parents, Sam & Mary, to allow him a track trial.

2009 began with Paul, equipped with new leathers and an old Aprilia RS125, sitting his licence tests at the East Fortune Raceway near his home town of Haddington in East Lothian.

In this debut year Paul quickly established a rapport with the bike, steadily improving his lap times at East Fortune and at Knockhill in Fife.
