Two Suzuki SV650s
The 2012 season begins with two Suzuki SV650s, one a 'stock' bike of Mini Twin spec, the other a tuned Super Twin.
In the paddock
Above & Left: Essentially 'stock' Suzuki SV650 Mini Twin ('wet' bike) which has been the season's workhorse.
Before the full Super Twin was ready, and while it was damaged, the "wet" bike held its own in all weather, even up against considerably more powerful opposition.
Below: The Super Twin, awaiting its tuned engine which was late for the start of the season. Major modifications include Kawasaki front suspension, Tokico brakes and a custom glass-fibre tail.
Ready for horses
Despite winning its races and showing a high top speed, the Super Twin returned disappointing lap times. It seemed unsettled into the corners and slow on the exits.
In testing, April
Matters came to a head at Knockhill in April when the bike fell at Duffus. At least the frame wasn't bent!
The handling problems were solved by a different rear tyre profile and the power problems by a quick rebuild! The Super Twin turned in some good lap times whenever there was a dry line, but typical Knockhill weather meant it was back to the wet setup of the Mini Twin to clinch the 2012 Scottish Championship in July.
